On Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m., crews will begin the process to close east-west access at 12600 S across Bangerter Highway. By Friday morning, drivers are advised to plan ahead and use alternate routes or designated detours while navigating the area. This long-term, east-west closure will remain in place through August 2021 and will facilitate construction of the grade-separated interchange. Designated detour routes will be signed for drivers navigating the area.
Although east-west traffic will be restricted, northbound and southbound drivers on mainline Bangerter Highway will have free-flow travel with the permanent removal of the traffic signal. Right-hand turns to/from 12600 S will also be allowed.
The complexity of the new interchange necessitates the east-west closure. To construct the underpass on 12600 S, crews will build from the “top down,” starting with bridge components first, followed by excavating the underpass. This approach will emphasize safety for both the traveling public and workers and allow efficient interchange construction.

Riverton City encourages residents and neighbors to continue supporting businesses that are located on either side of the Bangerter Highway / 12600 S intersection. Given the closure of east-west travel at the intersection for the next seven months, and the likely decreased traffic near those businesses, your support during the closure will help them keep their doors open.
