Mayor Pronounces Riverton Strong, Prosperous and Growing in State of the City Address

Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs presented the State of the City report to the public and City Council on Tuesday, Feb. 20, where he pronounced the state of Riverton City as “strong, prosperous and growing.” The composition of the City’s strength is found in the following areas: leadership, finance, infrastructure, economic development and community development.

In his comments, Mayor Staggs announced that the city’s elected officials had adopted vision and mission statements for the very first time. The vision statement, which he said conveys city leaders’ hope for the future, is:

“Preserving our past, citizens, families, businesses and leaders unite in building a community where we can live, work and play.”

The adopted mission statement indicates what the city does and how it will do it:

“Riverton City provides essential services that enhance the quality of life and sense of community for all citizens. We foster kind, open and responsive interactions, generating positive citizen involvement and innovative solutions. Leaders, citizens and employees hold each other accountable to meet the needs of the community.”

Mayor Staggs noted in his address that after the vision and mission statements were created, the following eight strategic priorities were adopted for the City and will be the focus for the coming year:

  1. Safe and healthy neighborhoods with balanced opportunities for live, work and play
  2. Promote a thriving business climate that supports the needs of our residents
  3. Create a welcoming, historic downtown destination
  4. Establish vibrant parks, recreation and events that build bridges within the community
  5. Well connected community with properly maintained utilities and infrastructure
  6. Highly engaged and informed residents
  7. Operational excellence
  8. Fiscally responsible governance

“This strength will continue as we realize the vision, mission and strategic priorities laid out by the governing body,” Staggs said. “A special thanks to our city council for their dedication and vision. I also want to thank all of the city employees for their hard work, service and constant striving for operational excellence. And a thank you to all of our residents that participate to make our city, a thriving, prosperous and strong community where we all want to live.”
