Riverton City Adopts New Official Logo

Riverton, UtahRiverton City has adopted a new logo following a competitive public design contest and multi-stage review process held over the last month and a half. More than 50 designs were entered in the contest from local community members. The city council conducted a thorough review process of the submissions, a component of which included a public preference poll that drew more than 400 votes from local residents.

“We wanted to have Riverton residents be able to determine the direction the city went with a new logo,” said Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs. “By holding a public design contest and a public preference poll, we were really able to land on a design that truly represents both our city and community.”

The design contest winner, Trevor Garner, was recognized at a city council meeting earlier this month and was presented with the design contest award of $200. His design features an outline of Riverton’s Old Dome Meeting Hall, accompanied by the text “Riverton Utah.”

“By including the dome in the logo, we have really made this logo our very own,” said Councilman Brent Johnson. “The Old Dome Meeting Hall is the most iconic building in Riverton and it was very evident people associate the building with Riverton after seeing the number of contest entries we received featuring the dome and the number of public preference votes for a design featuring the dome.”

The meeting hall, located in the city’s main park, opened its doors in 2015. It was fashioned after Riverton’s historic Old Dome Church that was built in the early 1900’s. It took community members nearly 10 years to build.

“The Old Dome church is a piece of our history,” said Councilwoman Tricia Tingey. “This dome was a piece of our past that helped define our great city and it represents the work ethic and citizen involvement that are still found in residents today. The logo portrays our commitment to the past and future.”

The colors and text styling of the logo represent communication, innovation and unity; all elements of the city’s vision and mission statements or strategic priorities.

The decision to adopt a new logo was reached by elected officials during a strategic planning meeting in January, as the old logo was difficult to read from a distance and costly to reproduce on certain items due to its complexity.

“The new logo symbolizes our past and the community we hope to shape now and into the future,” said Staggs. “Its design represents the principles that make Riverton great.”

Riverton City’s use of the new logo began on April 16. Full adoption will be phased in over time.
