MAYORAL DIRECTIVE ISSUED ON COVID-19

Riverton City Staff,

Given the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus) across the country and signs that the virus is taking hold in Utah, the items below should be implemented immediately out of an abundance of caution. For the time being, city facilities will remain open, city events remain scheduled except those noted and public facility reservations will move forward. All of these items could change at a moment’s notice. There is no need to overreact to this situation, but we do encourage everyone to take common sense measures to limit the COVID-19 threat. Our number one job as a government is to protect the health, safety and welfare of our residents.

  • Facilities staff are directed to increase janitorial service to ensure public spaces and objects that come in to contact with human skin are disinfected daily, including counters, doors, doorknobs, door handles, rails, benches, etc.
  • Riverton Senior Center bus service will be suspended today until further notice once seniors are dropped off at home. I have been in touch with Salt Lake County today and they have agreed to close the Riverton Senior Center until further notice in order to protect seniors.
  • The Riverton Half Marathon and 4Life 5K scheduled for March 28 will be postponed, given Governor Herbert’s directive to limit mass gatherings to 100 people or less. A postponement date has not been selected yet but will be communicated to those registered soon.
  • The Riverton Arts Council production of Once on this Island Jr. will have limited tickets available for each showing to ensure fewer than 100 people attend those productions. (NOTE: This event has since been postponed.)
  • New city facility reservations are hereby limited to groups less than 100. Existing reservations shall move forward unless directed otherwise in the future. (NOTE: This has since been changed to gatherings of 50 or less.)
  • Overtime pay is authorized for janitorial staff to ensure they have the time necessary to complete their duties until further notice.
  • Department heads and supervisors are authorized to send any staff member home who shows flu-like or cold-like symptoms.
  • If a staff member is sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19, they DO NOT have the discretion to come to work. Please stay home and keep your supervisor informed.
  • Department heads and supervisors are directed to develop contingency plans to ensure essential city services continue in the event of staff members becoming infected.
  • City staff are empowered to exercise whatever means necessary to acquire hand sanitizer, latex gloves, disinfectants and other such products to be prepared for future impact.
  • Community food and food sharing in city offices is hereby suspended until further notice, including candy dishes, donut boxes, group meals, etc. All community food should be removed today.

We are mindful that in the future, COVID-19 may impact the level of the service that Riverton City is able to offer to the public. If circumstances change, we will communicate that with you and will require your help to ensure continued operation of essential city services.

Sincerely,

Trent Staggs
Mayor
