Mayor Staggs: Changes to City Operations for COVID-19 Yellow Risk Phase

Yellow Risk PhaseDear Residents,

Governor Gary Herbert announced that most of Utah, including Riverton and our neighboring cities, will move to the yellow or low risk phase in the state’s response to COVID-19 on Saturday, May 16. The yellow phase allows groups of 50 people or less to gather while practicing social distancing. As a result of this move, Riverton City is making several adjustments to facility operations and procedures that were put in place due to COVID-19:

City Meetings: Riverton City Council and Planning Commission Meetings will re-open for in-person attendance. In-person attendance in the meeting room will be capped at 50 people. An overflow room will be provided where attendees can watch the meeting remotely if needed.

Facility & Pavilion Reservations: Beginning Wednesday, May 20, Riverton City will begin accepting reservations for the CR Hamilton Sports Complex Indoor Pavilion, Old Dome Meeting Hall, Park Pavilions and Sandra N. Lloyd Community Center. Waitlisted reservations will be granted priority. Those seeking reservations will be required to sign an agreement indicating there will not be more than 50 people inside those facilities at any one time. Reservations can be made by calling 801-208-3101 or by visiting the Parks & Recreation window at Riverton City Hall.

Playgrounds: All Riverton City playgrounds will open for public use on Saturday, May 16. Parents are encouraged to ensure their children practice social distancing. All playground use is at your own risk. Users should wash or disinfect their hands following each use.

Skate Park: The Riverton City Skate Park will open on Saturday, May 16. Users are encouraged to practice social distancing.

Team Sports: Organized team sports at city parks can resume beginning Saturday, May 16.  Strict adherence to social distancing and the 50-person maximum group size is required for players and spectators. Additional information will be sent to leagues authorized to use Riverton City facilities.

I received a phone call yesterday from Salt Lake County asking if we were comfortable moving to the yellow phase and that they would let the Governor’s Office know of our decision. I let them know that Riverton is ready to move to this phase. Other cities, such as the case with Salt Lake City and West Valley City, didn’t feel ready yet. As we enter this new phase, I encourage all individuals and families to act responsibly and make wise choices to ensure there is not an increase in COVID-19 cases. Everyone should continue to practice social distancing and employ aggressive personal hygiene practices.

Additional information on the state’s yellow phase can be found at coronavirus.utah.gov.

Sincerely,

Mayor Trent Staggs
