Councilman Troy McDougal
District 2 | Term: 2020-2024
Troy McDougal grew up visiting Riverton to buck hay for his grandfather’s farm and visiting the old RIverton IFA for farming supplies. Wanting that same rural experience for his family he moved to Riverton in 1996. The community has been home to Troy and his wife Marie and their six children since that time.
Troy graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education, later he received a master’s degree in education administration.
Troy has worked in a variety of professional areas. First, he worked in the real estate industry and is a licensed principal broker. Then he worked in the finance industry as a licensed insurance and investment broker for A.G. Edwards Investments. For a time, Troy and his family ran a small business, Chillz Frozen Yogurt, in Riverton. For the last 10 years Troy has returned to his first love of educating young people and currently works for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a seminary teacher.
Since moving to Riverton, Troy has been involved in a variety of ways. For example, he has volunteered as a youth coach in soccer, football and basketball. He has also spent the last couple years working on the football staff at Riverton High. He has been a volunteer for a variety of community initiatives such as economic development, secondary water and community activities.
In his spare time, Troy likes to spend time with his family playing sports, attending community events and gardening. He plans to finish raising his kids and retire and live in Riverton following his motto, “love where you live!”
