What is the Riverton Law Enforcement Service Area (RLESA)?
The Riverton Law Enforcement Service Area (RLESA) is a taxing district created for the purpose of collecting property taxes to pay for law enforcement services in Riverton, Utah. RLESA was formed in 2017 and officially began operations in 2018. RLESA replaced the Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area (SLVLESA) taxing district.
Why was the change made from SLVLESA to RLESA?
Riverton City created the Riverton Law Enforcement Service Area in part to mitigate the 2018 property tax increase approved by Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area (SLVLESA). Riverton's property taxpayers are paying less in property taxes than they would be had the city remained in SLVESA.
How is RLESA governed?
The governing board for RLESA is comprised of Riverton City Council members with the Mayor as chair of the board. The board sets budgets and tax rates for RLESA.
