Billing Information
Riverton City is on a once per month billing cycle. Meters are read beginning on the 9th or 10th of the month and the last routes are usually read by the 15th of the month. Bills are mailed so that they start arriving in customers mailboxes by the 9th.
Payments are due on the 25th of every month. Details on the various payment options can be found here.
If a bill is over 60 days past due, delinquent / shut off notices will be mailed. Payment must be made by the date listed on the notice to avoid disconnection.In the event water service is disconnected, the entire unpaid balance must be paid in full along with the required reconnection fee prior to restoring service.Utility rates for the various utilities the city provides, as well as details on the city's late fees and reconnection fees can be found on the Riverton City Fee Schedule.
Starting New Service
Prior to having a new water meter set for a newly constructed home, you will be required to meet with the Building Department. The builder must sign up for water service to have a meter set.
For both existing and new construction accounts a completed application and settlement statement from the closing of the home are required. Applications can be submitted online, via email, or in person; please visit our applications page for details.
Cancelling Service
Please contact the Riverton City Utility Billing Department to cancel your service after you have sold your home. Homeowner must fill out a termination request, which can be found here. Riverton City will read the meter for a final billing.
Senior Citizen Discounted Water Rates for Qualified Residents
Riverton City has implemented a discounted culinary and secondary water rate for senior citizens who qualify under Salt Lake County’s Circuit Breaker Tax Relief program. The Circuit Breaker Tax Relief program is designed to help qualifying individuals over 65 years of age receive a reduction in their property taxes.
To determine if you qualify for Salt Lake County’s Circuit Breaker Tax Relief program please call Salt Lake County at 385-468-8300. They will send you the necessary application forms so there is no need to appear in person. The applications must be received by Salt Lake County no later than September 1 to be considered for the following tax year.
To qualify you must meet the following criteria:
- You physically reside at the address in which the reduced water rate is being requested and you receive water service from Riverton City.
- The property at which you reside is served exclusively by one meter.
- You are over the age of 65.
- You meet the annual income requirements.
The Riverton City Utility Billing Department will verify those Riverton residents who qualify with Salt Lake County directly so there is no need to reapply at Riverton City. Those who qualify will receive the reduction in their water rates automatically as long as you meet the above criteria.
